Thank you to everyone who helped to make our 2008 Reunion successful and enjoyable. We are considering holding the 2009 Reunion in Hawaii. Let us know, as a fellow shipmate, if you think you might be able to attend.
We want to Welcome our latest additions to the rolls of "Life Membership", Philip A. Smith, Donald F. Zinkl, and Ronald A. Zinkl. We appreciate having each of you join our ranks.
The 2008 Reunion is over. Word coming back from some of those who attended, make it sound like it was the best Reunion ever. Thank you to all those who attended and helped to make this event both possible and enjoyable. For the Membership area, we will be posting a few pictures of the Reunion, as they are turned in.

Welcome! To our newest "Life Member", Joseph "Joe" Arbaiza, Jr., MM2, Aboard 1952-54. Joe tells us he is planning to make the 2008 Reunion, so be sure to welcome him then to "Life Membership" status in our association.
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY! And for those of you who are "annual" members...Your dues are due! Our membership area password will be changing on July 15th. Go to the Membership page to reapply. If you do not know your membership status, go to the Association page and see if your name is listed under 2008.
Our sincere apologies to Richard "Rick" Hendrickson, MR3 aboard 1969-70. We failed to list him on our website as a Life Member as of 10/27/2006. Our records have been corrected.
Bernard "Bernie" Glynn Bishop, GMG3, Aboard 1964-65, Bernie passed away from cancer on June 24, 2008 (as reported by his son, Troy, on 6-28-2008). Our Sincere Sympathy goes to Bernie's family and friends.
We received word from wife of Leonard "Jim" Pitts, AS, Aboard 1942, that Jim passed away last year, Feb. 19, 2007. Sincere condolences to Jim's family and friends.
Elaine Jewell, partner of 11 years to Gordon B. Kinch, reported that our fellow shipmate and Life Member, Gordy, passed away in Battle Creek, MI. on April 26, 2008. Our sincere condolences to Gordon's partner, family, and friends.
John Wiest, father of Leanne Schlagel who is wife of Assoc. Pres. Gary Schlagel, passed away from complications from a massive coronary on May 8, 2008. Our sincere condolences to Leanne, Gary, friends and family.
Gilbert "Gil" L. Farnsworth, SKSN: Aboard 1951-52. Wife's name Betty. Update received 05/08/2008 from daughter, Amy Farnsworth. "My father passed away at St. Josephs Hospital in Parkersburg, WV on October 21, 2006 from kidney
failure." Our sincere sympathy to shipmate Gil's family and friends.
Bud Bessey reported that fellow shipmate and past member Mike (Benny) Brenzikofer, SFP2, Aboard 1962-66, passed away 3/28/2008. Our sincere condolences to Mike's family and friends.

Association Secretary, Jim Shurmack, reported the details are shaping up for the 2008 Reunion. It will be held Oct. 8th through the 12th. Members planning to attend should reserve their rooms as soon as possible. The reunion will be held at the Embassy Suites San Antonio, nw I-10, 7750 Briaridge, San Antonio, Texas 78230. Banquet, entertainment, and a couple of tours are on the agenda. Members should login to the membership area for more details.

Not much to report yet on the 2008 Union, we are still working on the tentative details. If you are a shipmate, be sure to keep up your membership, for the latest announcements in our membership area.

Our Sympathy goes to the family and friends of Gerald Poppenga, DC3, Aboard 1965-66, who passed away in 2007 from complications that appear to have been caused by Agent Orange. A court case came to a head on this matter.
Ship logs showed that the USS Kennebec, at the time period of December 7, 1965, was indeed sprayed with Agent Orange. For those who served aboard then, we will be posting more information on our website as it becomes available.
