2002 Reunion
October 10-12, 2002 Virginia Beach, Virginia
Sheraton Oceanfront Hotel
November: Reunion Photos Will Be Mailed All
shipmates who attended will receive photos of shipmates, spouses and all
reunion tables.
Second AO-36 Reunion Spawns Third 93 shipmates,
spouses and guests gathered at the Sheraton for the second Kennebec reunion.
Unlike last year's reunion in Las Vegas, there were many cancellations due to
illness, a few no-shows and many who expressed an interest in attending but
never followed up. While in Virginia Beach, we encountered some unexpected
problems including 5-1/2 inches of rain on the 11th. However, there is
sufficient interest to hold a 2003 reunion. It will be held October 2-4 in a
location to be determined by membership voting through January 10, 2003. The
cities of San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle are on the ballot
and there is room for write-in locations. A 2004 reunion would be held in the
central part of the country.
Highlights Of Reunion Of course, the people who
attend are the highlight of any reunion. Anne Phillips of
Phillips Tours, Inc. (view Web
site) of Norfolk did an outstanding job helping to plan our tours. Tours
run Thursday and Friday were filled to capacity. Kudos also to our tour guide,
Dot. The banquet meal Saturday night was excellent and entertainment by "Take
Two" was enjoyed by all, including several members of the audience who became
part of the show. DJ Rich Pancoast spun CD's while many got on the dance floor
and listened to songs they had requested.
Silent Auction The generosity of the members and
wives was evident during the silent auction as a nice variety of donated items
was displayed amid active bidding. Association members may view the original
auction sheet with the buyers names and winning amounts. Thank you to all
who participated!
