DEC 17 - Les will begin mailing caps today to all who have paid.

Gary Schlagel And Leanne Wiest To Wed

DEC 12 - The Association president sent a Christmas card announcing the good news. A summer 2002 wedding is planned. Must have been that "Reunion Magic!"

Dick Hawkins Named 2002 Reunion Chairman

DEC 10 - The Association officers, without dissent, left the bulk of the Fall 2002 reunion planning in the hands of Dick Hawkins, who also held the reins for the 2001 event. The long list of potential cities includes: Annapolis/Baltimore, MD; Boston, MA; Charleston, SC; Jacksonville, FL; Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA; Pensacola, FL.

2002 Kennebec Magnetic Calendars Received

DEC 3 - Terry Butkus was the first to advise he received his 2002 Kennebec magnetic calendar.

Jewel Muzyka Recoving From Surgery

DEC 3 - Pete Muzyka advised that his wife, Jewel, had recent lower back surgery and that she is recovering nicely.

Reunion Photos Received

DEC 3 - Dave Hawrey and Walt Norkus were the first to advise they received their reunion photos.

Bud Bessey's Ship's Store News

DEC 2 - Bud advises he has one mans and three ladies watches left that still can be gotten by Christmas and only two of the ship models left.

2002 Kennebec Magnetic Calendars Mailed

DEC 1 - 2002 Kennebec magnetic calendars were mailed to all Association members who did not attend the 2001 reunion in October. dimes, go to the library and print copies. Then the detective work begins!

Association Ship's Store News

NOV 29 - Les will be shipping shirts starting the first of December. He expects to get the caps in hand any day now and will start shipping as soon as the are delivered.

Reunion Photos Mailed

NOV 27 - Shipmates who attended the 2001 reunion in October were mailed photos of shipmates, spouses and guests as well as each reunion table.

Craig S. "Jake" Jacobson Dies

NOV 23 - Sandi Jacobson, Craig's wife, reported his passing from cancer on November 23. Jake was aboard Kennebec from mid-1968 to it's decommissioning in 1970 as BT2. He was a contributing member of the Association and sent many photos which are on the Web site.

Bud Bessey's Ship's Store Web Page

NOV 14 - I've created a Bud Bessey's Ship's Store page on the Kennebec site. Bud's merchandise does not conflict with the Association's merchandise. Bud donates a portion of each sale to the Association. At present he will take orders for:
a. USS Kennebec (AO-36) Logo Watch
b. Hand-Painted Ceramic Of Navy Sailor With Sea bag
c. Revell Plastic Model Ship Kit of T2-SE type oiler (like Kennebec) only 6 available

Muster Rolls On Order

NOV 2 - They have been ordered for the years 1942-60 except the years the ship was decommissioned. We will receive all years on 6 rolls instead of one for each year. That will save some money at $34 a roll.

2001 Reunion Ends But 2002 Reunion To Be Held

OCT 18-20 - The 144 in attendance seemed to have a great time at the first ever Kennebec reunion at the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. The 84 Association members present voted to hold the next reunion in the fall of 2002. The 2001 reunion committee has endorsed holding it on the east coast for the convenience of our shipmates living there.

Association Membership Reaches 150

AUG 26 - Bill Childress who was aboard 1965-68 became the 150th member of the Association.

Association Membership Reaches 100

JUN 21 - Mark Steffens who was aboard 1965-67 became the 100th member of the Association.

Association Membership Reaches 50

MAR 5 - Steve Byrom who was aboard 1967-69 became the 50th member of the Association.
