William George Greenfield, 78, Bayview, Idaho, died Friday, February 1, 2002, while wintering in San Diego, CA. He was born March 9, 1923, in El Paso, Texas, to George and Leona Greenfield. He was raised in Calipatria, CA, where he was also educated. On May 29, 1940, he joined the Navy and over the years he served on the USS Kennebec, the USS Manitee and the USS Boggs. In 1962, he became the commander of the naval base in Bayview, retiring in 1971 from the Navy as a CWO4 and remained at his home in Bayview He was a member of the Bayview Fire Department and had served as fire chief and was also past president of the Bayview Chamber of Commerce, Coeur d'Alene Eagles Lodge, Athol American Legion, Musicians Union, Retired Officers Association, Fleet Reserve Association and the Gyros. His hobbies included playing his trumpet, bowling, baseball, dancing, crossword puzzles, traveling, fishing and playing pool. An avid golfer, he received a trophy for hole-in-one at Avondale Golf Club. Memorial service was 11 a.m., March 9, at the American Legion Post #149 in Athol. Memorials may be sent to the Athol American Legion. |
